SKILLS ASSESSMENTS

A SCIENCE-BASED CAREER COUNSELING TOOL

“Kompetenzenbilanz” was developed in 2003 by Prof. Dr. Claas Triebel in cooperation with the Zukunftszentrum Tirol and has been constantly updated ever since. It is an effective and science-based coaching process for identifying people’s competencies on the grounds of their professional and non-professional activities, their individual development, their qualifications as well as their learning experiences. To date, more than 20,000 people have benefited from the skills assessment for a better professional life – mainly in Germany.

AN OFFICIALLY TESTED COACHING METHOD

In addition to its international recognition, the Kompetenzenbilanz 2017 has been rated Best Career Counseling Tool by a study of Stiftung Warentest conducted on behalf of the German Ministry of Education and Research.

A HOLISTIC AND STRUCTURED PROCESS

The special feature of this structured process is that it takes the entire life of the participants into consideration. Together with the coach, the candidates recognize, document and formulate their core competences. They consciously unlock the potential that they have developed on the basis of all their positive and negative experiences so far, both in professional and non-professional contexts. The process goes far beyond classic career coaching.

ACTION PRINCIPLES

  • EXPERIENCE – biographical work on procedural activation
  • REALIZE – activity analysis and resource activation
  • WANT – compilation and documentation of competences to increase the willingness to change
  • DO – designing the next steps to foster the willingness to implement

EMPOWERMENT AND OWNERSHIP

A key element of skills assessment is the formulation work: together with the coach, participants work out their main eight core-competences, which they then formulate in their own words. In this way the participants appropriate their competencies. Their self-confidence is strengthened, and they are thus enabled to actively shape their professional lives.

As part of a short orientation process (4 consecutive meetings at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks within 4 to 8 weeks, including 2 to 3 hours of personal work between each meeting), participants gain fresh insight into what they have experienced and learned in their lives so far.

After completing the process, participants recognize a common thread in their development. They see that every step in their lives, every experience and every decision make sense and as a result they find out where their strengths lie and what values are important to them.

This realization is good for them because dealing with one’s own competencies, abilities and skills has a positive effect on the psyche. Participants realize that they are not stuck in the status quo. The process shows how a person has evolved during her life and, more importantly, how she can evolve further.
